Identical identity? Jon and Mat

Jon and Mat are identical twins. But they have differing views on identity.

This animation was created by Mario Elias Delgado Garcia, who is studying for a BA in Computer Character Animation at Teesside University.

Mario says: the feeling of struggle that the twin brothers have with the topic of personal identity is what caught my attention. I have always found interesting the concept of identity and what make us be “us”. From the beginning of the conversation, I was thinking about how I could represent or convey the feelings and flow of the conversation.

Before getting into the list of conversations, I looked at some of the animations already posted on the website. I saw one that wasn’t using literal characters or environments, and felt the need to do something like it. I have never done something abstract before, nor have I created an animation based on a conversation, so I took it as a full learning experience. All of it was new to me: the concept, the abstract theme, the tools I used… and I learned everything as I was developing the idea and working through it. The feelings from the conversation and the visual research made me try different ways of representing parts of the conversation, hoping to convey not only what was being told but also what was felt, in a different way.
